Quilts of Valor String Block-May 2026

Happy 250th Birthday USA! To celebrate, we are creating string blocks to make into Quilts of Valor Quilts.

  • Who:  Anyone interested in participating!
  • What:  We are making a foundation pieced string block. We have the foundation and main diagonal strip ready for you to take. You will be adding red and blue strings.
  • When:  Bring your blocks to the May Guild Meeting. Can’t attend but still want to participate? No problem! Contact Karen Snell at activities@nsqg.club

Guidelines:

  • Use a fabric that reads white for the diagonal, that is already given to you.
  • Make strings red and blue, no order is necessary.
  • Make sure your strings go past the foundation fabric.
  • Do not trim the block, once it is complete, we will have one person do this so they are all the same size.

Want to make more? Yes you can, here are the measurements for the foundation and diagonal strip.

  • 11½” Square for the foundation (the foundations     can be any light colored fabric, it will not be seen.)
  • 2½” x 18” White strip for diagonal-any fabric that reads white is fine, this is a scrappy quilt

Place the diagonal strip on the foundation square and follow the directions on the video. We used a few drops of glue to hold the white diagonal in place.
