NSQG Charity Projects
Charity work is a big part of what we do and we strongly encourage member participation in service to others. We collect many items and distribute them to several different service organizations in our community. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Currently many Guild members participate in making quilts for the Rainbow Hospice in Park Ridge. Rainbow Hospice cares for critically ill patients who are no longer able to receive sufficient care at home and can no longer be taken care of in a hospital. A quilt is on the foot of the bed when a new patient is admitted and becomes a treasured keepsake of the family when the patient has passed. Many times kits are available at the monthly meetings but volunteers may also use their own fabrics. Each Hospice Quilt Kit contains ten (10) 4-1/2-inch strips x 45-inch strips of fabric, four (4) 2-1/2-inch x 45-inch strips of fabric for binding and a 45×48-inch piece of fabric for backing. Batting is furnished by the quilter. Other quilt designs are also accepted but should not exceed the 45×45-inch finished dimensions. We welcome fabric and batting donations.
Our guild supports Project Linus , a charity that provides love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need . We provide gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.” Quilts made by Guild Members can be dropped off each month during our monthly guild meeting at our Charity Table. Please visit the Project Linus website for full details and guidelines for making a blanket or quilt.
Every year NSQG members make and donate more than 1,000 Christmas stockings that are filled with gifts and given to needy children to brighten their holiday.
