Description

Type: Traditional
Style: Lone Star, also known as Texas Star, Bethlehem Star, Broken Star
Technique:  In this class we are going to learn Nancy’s method for creating and perfecting a 4 x 4 pieced diamond that makes up the building block for the Lone Star design.   We will start by selecting our fabrics and learning how to place them in the design.  Nancy will teach us her power cutting technique for strip cutting the fabrics and then also in cutting the diamond strips for piecing.  In addition, we are going to learn Nancy’s method of getting to the right amount of quarter inch bite to take on our machines.  In this pattern we are going to use what’s called a ‘scant 1/4 inch’ in order to get the most accurate of diamond shapes.  Getting our points to match perfectly will also be covered!  Most students will complete the 4×4 diamonds in class and Nancy will demonstrate how to sew the Corners and Background Triangles which utilize Y-seam construction.  Nancy will take the fear out of those Y-seam junctions and give you the confidence to make this stunning quilt over and over.
Experience:  Confident Beginners to Advanced.  This class if for anyone that wants to learn how to make this traditional quilt.  The class is designed for 1st-time makers of a Lone Star quilt (not first time quilters, but first time making a quilt using diamonds.)  The emphasis is on precise sewing and piecing technique using only a 4×4 diamond and 2-1/2″ wide strips.  The finished quilt will be approximately 45″x 45″ in size.  This quilt is very doable and works up quickly.

In Person: Hilton Garden Inn, 1191 Woodfield Road, Schaumburg, IL.

Time: 9:30am – 4:30pm

Nancy’s “Lone Star Size Chart” is required for class which is $15.00.  This is a 26 page guide and you can pay Nancy in Class or purchase on her website.

There is no ‘kit’ for this class, please use your own fabrics and basic rulers/supplies.

Some NSQG notes regarding the supply list: Spray Sizing should be UNSCENTED for class use.  The scented Best Press, if used, is much too powerfully scented for our classes.  If using Faultless brand please also look for Unscented.

*If you can’t find the item Seam Guides by Guidelines4Quilters in stores or on-line a scant 1/4″ can also be set-up on your machine manually, please bring your favorite guide marker.

Please note: Workshop fees are non-refundable unless we can fill your space. Please contact programs@nsqg.club if you have questions.
