Rebecca Haarer, of Mennonite heritage, was born and raised near Shipshewana, IN. After graduation from Goshen College with a BA in Art Education in 1975, she became aware of the cultural interest in
Amish and Mennonite folk arts. She refers to this era as “the coming out years” of Indiana Amish Quilts.
Rebecca currently resides in Shipshewana and works at Rebecca Haarer Arts and Antiques, an eclectic shop featuring vintage quilts and Amish made traditional items.
Her presentation at our meeting will be Amish Quilts from Northern Indiana, 1890-to Present Day, and includes twelve Amish quilts collected from families in LaGrange and Elkhart counties in Indiana, the stories of their making and why they left their families.
