Eric Drexler

Eric Drexler is a certified instructor with Sulky. He has developed a wide spectrum of expertise across 35 years in the sewing industry. From sewing machine mechanic to teacher, manager, and co-owner of a business he’s seen a lot. For the last 13 years, he has been a full-time employee of Sulky of America, has focused on his creative side (but still repairing sewing machines in his spare time.)

Eric has been free-motion quilting since the age of 10. He has made numerous large and small works of machine art. 

Eric loves to teach and share his exuberance for creative sewing. He is passionate about inspiring students of all ages so they can discover and enjoy a lifetime of creative fun. His infectious smile and warm humor puts everyone at ease, and he is widely sought after.

A brief history of Sulky, which needle to use, which stabilizer to use, how to use specialty metallic threads, explore different thread weights and when to use polyester vs. rayon thread.

Basic Thread Sketching & Couching

Location: Online

Kit fee: $26

Couching: Learn the basics of raw edge appliqué; layering techniques; machine fed/free-motion couching; and free-motion straight stitch thread painting. Couch yarns to actually create an object or make awesome textures by threading multiple threads through the eye of a single needle. 

Thread Sketching: Learn how to write cursive with our machine – great for labels and signing quilts; basic free-motion straight stitching with different thread types; free-motion quilting, free-motion fill-n; introduction to thread sketched portraits and pen & ink tangles.  These exercises will help you get your stitches more uniform in length.

To ensure kits are received in time for the workshop, all sign ups must be received no later than Thursday, August 27.

Our expert instructors will teach you how to add a variety of textures using decorative stitches to enhance the pattern and create visual appeal. Sulky’s matching threads create a professional look without additional handwork. Everything needed to complete the project is included in the kit!

One kit is included in the price of the workshop at the discounted rate of $35. Additional kits are available at sulky.com. There will be an NSQG workshop discount available closer to the workshop date.

Workshop Policies

To sign-up for workshops please use the link above, stop by the Programs Table at any guild meeting, or contact our Programs Chair at programs@nsqg.club. Policies are subject to change without notice.

  • Video or audio recording of class material is strictly prohibited, and may be cause for dismissal from the class without a refund.
  • Workshop reservations are open to members only from July through September, unless otherwise posted.
  • No seat in any workshop is reserved until payment has been received.
  • Please arrive 30 minutes prior to in-person classes to set up . For virtual workshops, the link will open approximately 15 minutes prior to class time so you can ensure your connectivity.
  • Cancellation policy: If NSQG cancels the workshop, it is fully refundable to attendees. If participants cancel attendance at a workshop, it is only refundable if the spot can be filled by another attendee.
  • For full day workshops, a lunch break of one hour is included. For in-person workshops, lunch is not included in the price. The programs chair will provide details about food policies at the venue.
  • Be prepared. This includes having all items on the supply list, a sewing machine in good working order, and basic sewing supplies and an extension cord/power strip. Also useful: a small iron and an ironing surface that may be shared with other students..
  • Silence phones during class. If you need to make or take a call, please exit the classroom.
  • Visitors are very distracting and are not allowed other than during the lunch break.
  • If you know you have to leave class early, please try to sit in the back of the room to avoid disturbing the rest of the class.
  • Please refrain from wearing perfume.
