Sew-In Retreats

Three times a year, members of the Guild meet for a weekend of sewing, inspiration, guidance, laughing, eating and a whole lot of fun! Sleeping is optional. Participants work on their own projects and, although we do not have a special teacher for these retreats, occasionally someone will demonstrate a new tool or technique.

The $60 fee covers your portion of the meeting room, which is our sewing room for the weekend. We get a special block room rate at the hotel, arranged through our retreat coordinator. At checkout, you will need to pay the hotel directly for your guest room, whether it is a single or shared room (around $100 each for a shared room for two nights). Retreats are at the Hilton Garden Inn in Schaumburg.  It is near Woodfield Mall, so we have many many retail and restaurant choices. You must stay at the hotel to participate in the retreat. This is part of the reason we get a reasonable rental rate on the meeting rooms.

Please remember, ALL ROOM RESERVATIONS/REQUESTS MUST GO THROUGH THE RETREAT COORDINATOR! As of December 2, 2019, we only take reservation requests online (available once registration opens). This helps our volunteers streamline the dozens of hours of tasks that go into planning and preparing this great experience for everyone. The dates for February 2020-November2020 retreats have been finalized, as well as the dates that registration opens. See the sign up dates on the right, and if you have a conflict, make sure to plan for someone to register on your behalf. Remember, you must submit your retreat registration form and payment to be considered as registered. If you only submit one, you will not be considered registered.

Retreats are currently for guild members only. Before the July retreat, be sure you renew your membership.

Some things to note:

  • The sewing room is available from 8 AM Friday to 6PM Sunday. You may come and go as your schedule allows.
  • You will have your own sewing table, and there are shared cutting tables and irons provided by the hotel.
  • Bring all the supplies for your project, including cutting tools and a light. (If you forget something, there are plenty of retail options nearby.)
  • The cost of your room and meals are not included in the registration fee. Rooms are approximately $95 plus tax for double occupancy and come with a coffee maker, refrigerator, and a microwave. A lot of dining options are within a short drive All participants must stay at the hotel in order for us to get the great room rate.
  • DO NOT MAKE YOUR OWN ROOM RESERVATION!!!! All room reservations are handled through the retreat coordinator.
